A short day yesterday as was feeling ho hum as I left Buffalo, maybe could have stayed another night?
I just took it easy, making my way to Devil’s Tower as it was really windy, with strong gusts blowing me around, and by 9am, it was time for breakfast, so I stopped at Gilette and had some food and more importantly coffee at a Perkins Resturant, I then spied a a shop closing down called Hastings, so took a look.
Picked up a few reduced books on local geology and some geek items.
I then carried on to Devil’s Tower and when it finally came into view, wow what a sight!
I’d decided to camp at the KOA site, $29 and as it was still very windy, I pitched the tent below the trees in a gully.
Taking a ride up to the parking area, it was totally unreal to see it close up although had to stay on the path as there are rattlers up there.
As I was walking back to the car park, I could see storm clouds in the distance and by the time I’d got back to my tent, there was thunder and lightning.
Then later on, just as they were playing Close Encounters of the Third Kind at dusk, another huge storm rolled in, completely surrounding the place. I’d never seen a storm like it, the whole sky was lit up for ages.
The next day I was up at 6am, leaving at 7am, still felt a bit out of sorts although could just be mornings and no coffee.
I reached Sturgis and there were heaps and heaps of bikes there, vendors setting up for the start of bike week.
I had breakfast in a cafe and was surprised to see someone carrying a pistol in a holster as open carry.
I’d bought the usual fridge magnets and stickers before deciding to head out of town, past the vendor selling trailers for bikes. I saw one that would suit the GSA, so it was a case of organising this and ordering a hitch from Canada.
i contacted the chap I’d been talking to in Red Lodge as he lives in Rapid City, so item will be delivered there.
