Well it’s that time again for the yearly South Island ride and this year ,there has been quite a few route changes due to heavy rain.

Day 1 left Chch in warm sunshine, cut through Rakia Gorge to Geraldine, pretty windy across the plains. Second breakfast at Geraldine before heading towards Wanaka. On the way through MacKenzie Country, one of our riders got nicked for speeding and just past Twizel, I stopped to help a lost dog that was in danger of getting run over. A friendly local, stopped and said they would take it to the local vets as I was on my bike.

Dog’s owner found, so all good there, went up the Crown Range, raining and ended back at Cromwell.

Day 2, Left Cromwell, through Clyde and heading towards Balclutha but heavy rain, scuppered that idea, so we took an alt route round about route, heading through MiddleMarch before arriving at Danseys Pass hotel. Very very windy riding, tiring but food outstanding here.
